Mandy Thorn MBE
Mandy Thorn joined her parents in running the original Uplands Nursing Home in 1993 following a career in marketing and communications in London and South Africa. She developed the Care Home from the 36 bed service basing in Dorrington, just outside Shrewsbury to building and opening the 81 bedded Uplands at Oxon in 20007
She was a founder director of the local trade association, Shropshire Partners in Care, stepping down from the board in 2018 and was Vice-Chair of the National Care Association until June 2020. A previous trustee of Heathwatch Shropshire and now Chair of Lingen Davies Cancer Trust as well as a trustee of Shrewsbury Town in the Community and of Skills for Care. Mandy is also governor of Prestfelde School in Shrewsbury. She is currently the Chair of the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership and President of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
In 2014 Mandy was awarded the MBE for services to dementia.
