Team raises more than £500 for charity

Many congratulations to the intrepid team from The Uplands who took part in the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in aid of the Care Workers Charity – and raised more than £500 in the process.

Mandy, Mark and Katie Thorn, along with Sue Williams, tackled the three peaks of Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside. The route is 24 miles and takes in 5,200 feet of ascent, so it is no easy task, and it rained for much of the day which didn’t make the challenge any easier.

“It was tough but enjoyable,” said Katie, who completed the route in a little over 10 hours. “I want to do it again!

“There were just lots of really nice vibes throughout the day and it was great that lots of the groups from all over the country got mixed up.”

There were 86 people taking part and more than £20,000 was raised for CWC.

Mandy added: “Most participants were from much larger care organisations but we were a small and perfectly formed team!

“I must congratulate Sue and Katie for finishing – Mark and I were carrying injuries which meant we couldn’t scale all three peaks, but we did walk around the third of the peaks so pretty much completed the route.

“The Care Workers Charity is a wonderful cause, set up to help current and former professionals from the sector in times of hardship, and we were delighted to be able to contribute.”
