Opinion: Setting the record straight

There has been a lot of misinformation in the media recently on the admission of Covid-positive patients to care homes.

The situation is this. There are 120 homes across the country which have been designated to accept patients who have been tested positive to Covid to help ease the burden on hospitals. These are homes which have very specialized units; no other home can accept them.

There are two of these in Shropshire – and The Uplands is not one of them. However, care homes will be asked to accept patients who have been diagnosed as positive in the past, but are no longer symptomatic or a risk to any of the residents who live there.

It really doesn’t help when newspaper or media headlines are misleading people into thinking that homes accepting patients who are Covid-positive is a far wider practice than it actually is.
