New social hub on Mondays
The Uplands will be playing host to a new scheme intended to bring together older adults to socialise and have fun.
The social sessions will be taking place on Mondays, starting on April 29th, at 1.30pm in the Day Centre. It is free for residents but this is a community-wide initiative so is very much open to relatives and friends.
The scheme has been launched in Shropshire by Shrewsbury Town in the Community. Called Extra Time Hubs, they are intended to harness the power of football clubs in the local communities to bring people together
Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s health activator, Hayley Wells, said: “I am excited to get the sessions started and it will be great for people to come along and meet others. We hope it will help address social isolation and be a meeting point for many. Hopefully I can share my experiences and inspire people to do activities they might not ordinarily do.
“Extra-Time Hubs have proven to be very popular so far and by increasing the number of sessions Shrewsbury Town in the Community hope to be able to give even more access to the sessions to all from across Shropshire. The sessions include both light physical activity and social activities such as quizzes, bingo, multi-sports and even trips to the theatre and bowling.”
