We know you’ll have a whole host of questions when considering a stay at The Uplands, whether for yourself or a loved one. Here are the answers to some of the questions we get asked most often. But of course, if you have any other questions that aren’t answered here just ask and we will be happy to advise.
I worry that I might lose all my independence if I go into a home?
We understand that this is a very real concern for our prospective residents – after all, they have lived full and independent lives until now. But rest assured that we will do all we can to help you live as fully and independently as possible, and to keep up with any hobbies and interests you might have. And, as it’s never too late to learn something new, we can introduce you to new hobbies too!
When will my friends and relatives be able to visit me?
Our visiting times are very flexible and you are welcome to have visitors any time between 9am and 8pm. Principal carers and/ or family and friends may telephone us at any time, day or night, to enquire about your well-being. We will always try to enable you to speak directly to the person telephoning, and if that is not possible we’ll pass on any messages for you.
Will I be able to bring my pets with me?
We are aware that pets have a beneficial and positive influence on residents’ lives, and, unfortunately you won’t be able to bring your own with you, however your visitors are welcome to bring well-behaved dogs with them to visit you, but we do ask that you clean up after them!
Who will be looking after me?
When you become a resident, you will be allocated a Key Worker Care Assistant who will help you with your individual personal and recreational needs, and a Named Nurse who will support you with your nursing needs.
What if I don’t like the food?
We take pride in the variety and quality of our home cooking, and special diets and personal preferences are catered for. Meals are prepared on the premises from fresh, locally purchased produce, and will be varied according to seasonal availability. There is a rolling menu plan covering an 8-week period, which includes two main choices for each meal. Catering staff will produce a daily menu, which will be displayed in a prominent place within the Home, and residents are welcome to suggest changes to the menu at any time.
