Dementia Day Care Centre
One of just a few purpose built day centres in the country, the Uplands Day Centre is not a drop in venue, nor is not just a place for people to sit and receive a service. We have spent a lot of time listening to people with dementia, and their families, about what services they would like to have available. Based on their feedback, we have designed the Centre to provide activities for everyone who wants to take part, and space to relax for those who wish to take things a little easier.
Outstanding facilities, indoors and outdoors
There is outdoor space for gardening and exercise, plus a small gym for those who want to keep active. We have an arts and crafts area and a demonstration kitchen, so together we can continue to bake and prepare meals. Wi-fi access, personal computers and a surround sound cinema system enable people to continue to develop their interests and skills. There is a quiet room which can provide a haven from the hustle and bustle of the main room, and patios and verandas to sit and watch the local wildlife.
Individual support plans for each client
Our Day Centre is open between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Full or half day sessions need to be booked in advance. Prior to their first visit, all of our clients undergo a thorough assessment visit from one of our senior support workers or by a nurse experienced in the care of people with dementia. This enables an agreed support plan to be formulated, to meet each client’s individual needs.
The cost of each session will depend on the assessed need of each client, but will be agreed in advance. There will be a written agreement which clearly sets out our service.
Staff experienced in dementia care
The Centre is staffed by support workers who are experienced in the provision of services to people with dementia. The staff team will work closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure that the services we offer benefit those that attend the Centre.
Prices and contracts
Our prices range from £250 a week for five full day sessions to £75 per day if the centre is used just one day a week. This fee includes all care and support, meals and activities within the Day Centre. Day trips and external activities may incur additional charges, which will be notified and agreed in advance.
All clients attending the Day Centre will have a contract outlining the service we will be providing, our terms and conditions and the agreed daily fee.
